Winter Haven, FL, June 17, 2021 – A quick update on the issues facing the DME industry. As most are aware, Philips Respironics’ faces headwinds due to ozone and heat causing degradation of sound abatement foam. 3B rang the bell early on the risks of use of ozone with both CPAP devices and patients. Currently, there is a global shortage of ICs and other electronic components that are limiting manufacturer ability to surge production. This situation will take several months to stabilize but 3B is working with its DME partners to maintain adequate supply to help keep their patients serviced. A lot of frustration and concern is mounting, but at end of day, as an industry and on both manufacturer and provider sides of the spectrum, we will get through this situation with a little patience and creativity. 3B will be issuing formal guidance this coming Monday to assist DME planning as we surge production and use air freight to bridge supply issues.
